Why A Lesbian Couple Would Choose Surrogacy

Surrogacy is an option that is used by individuals and couples of all combinations. People, including lesbians, choose surrogacy because they feel that is the best way to grow their family. Some tend to get surprised when they hear that lesbians are choosing surrogacy, so we wanted to answer the question “Why would a lesbian couple choose surrogacy?”

1. Infertility

Infertility is common. Out of 100 couples in the United States, about 12 to 13 of them have trouble becoming pregnant. About 10 in 100 (6.1 million) women in the United States ages 15–44 have difficulty becoming pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

2. Age

Some women wait until later in life to start their family. There are many reasons for deciding to postpone having children; careers, personal choice and financial reasons just to name a few. When they are ready, some are unable to carry their child(ren) for themselves.

3. Born without a uterus or have had a hysterectomy. Just because there are two women in a couple doesn’t mean these issues can’t affect both partners!

4. Medication

There are many medications today that a woman may need to maintain their health that are not safe to take during pregnancy.

5. Other medical or life-threatening situations

There are many medical situations that affect pregnancy and doctors have advised them not to carry a child.

There can be so many reasons for a lesbian couple to choose surrogacy. We realize that no one ever chooses surrogacy first. No matter what the reason, we at New England Surrogacy are here to help you grow your family!
